Import and export of hygiene products in China in the first three quarters of 2023

According to Customs statistics, in the first three quarters of 2023, the import volume of wet wipes in China has significantly decreased year-on-year, while the export volume has slightly increased compared to the same period.

Import

In the first three quarters of 2023, there was a double-digit decrease in both the total import volume and total import volume of wet wipes compared to the same period last year. The total import volume of wet wipes was relatively small, at 22200 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 22.60%, which has little impact on the domestic market.

Export

In the first three quarters of 2023, the total export volume of wet wipes was 425100 tons, a year-on-year increase of 7.88%. Among them, cleaning wet wipes are the main type, accounting for about 75.7%, and the export volume increased by 17.92% year-on-year. The export of disinfected wet wipes continues to decline. The average export price of wet wipes is much lower than the average import price, indicating fierce international trade competition in wet wipes.

Note: Currently, in the customs' product codes, clean wet wipes are classified as 34011990 and disinfected wipes are classified as 38089400. However, these two codes not only include wipes products, but also other cleaning and disinfection products.
